For some Los Angeles residents, it may seem odd that we are approaching twenty-five years since the year 2000.

Prince’s song made us party like it was 1999 when we rang into the new century. Around the world a few folks hunkered down for Y2K bugs that were supposed to mess with our computers and destroy our lives. It was also the time the cast of 90210 ended their show. They had a good ten-year run. So much has changed since then.

Our clinic is proud to be established in Beverly Hills, where locals live on the cutting edge of great style and living!  Even though people thought they were “living in the modern world” in 2000, today’s technology reminds us that things are always changing.  For instance, there wasn’t even an iPhone around in 2000!  It arrived in June 2007.  Can you imagine how different the 90210 show would have been if the characters had such a device back then?

If you wonder where the 90210 cast members are today, Biography.com has an update on the Beverly Hills 90210 cast.

They’ve all matured, and several have teenagers of their own now. Like the rest of Los Angeles, they may be checking in for a little cosmetic surgery like liposuction…which has also evolved.

Liposuction in Beverly Hills 90210: Then vs. Now

Liposuction treatments have also changed.  Back in 2000, liposuction was a top cosmetic procedure.  And even today, liposuction in Beverly Hills is still one of the most sought-after cosmetic treatments.  Yet, the surgery has made several technical leaps in over twenty years.  Liposuction launched in the 1920s but became unavailable to the public until 1977.  And it took off in the 1980’s.  At the time, the cannula, or hollow stainless steel tube that vacuums fat from the body, was much larger.  Because of this, there were more post-op complications and scarring in the past.

New technology has made the procedure more precise and comfortable.  For instance, consider the process for high-definition or HD Liposuction.  Unlike the clunky cannula needles of yore, HD lipo needles use a very thin cannula inserted through small incisions in the skin.  The smaller tools better target and contour parts of the body like the legs, arms, and stomach.  HD liposuction is also a successful option for removing the fat around the neck to create more definition around the jawline.  Recovery time has become shorter, too.  Yes, there is still some swelling, bruising, and soreness.  Compression garments are required, too.  Yet, depending on the type of treatment, many patients can return to their regular schedule within a week.  And any post-op scars are hardly noticeable or transparent.

For someone who doesn’t do well under general anesthesia, there is the Awake Liposuction option.  Once again, the liposuction experience in Beverly Hills differs for each patient depending upon what they want.  The Awake360 procedure uses local anesthesia to numb the surgical areas, but not general anesthesia.  Patients are awake and comfortable while experiencing cosmetic surgery.  It also uses a tumescent solution designed to minimize bleeding and swelling.

Patients still need to rest after surgery and are usually able to go home the same day.
